Everything about making your home eco-friendly!
A popular trend among couples planning their wedding is green. Brides are choosing to use recycled and all natural items for everything from the ceremony items to the reception decorations. Planning a green theme for the wedding and wedding party takes a little planning and thought, however, it is easier than most think.
Recycled Wedding Attire
When having a green wedding, it is important that as many items as possible fall into this category. The bridal gown could be a vintage gown worn by a family member or one that has been purchased as pre-worn. A pre-worn wedding gown can be adapted to suit the brides taste with a few alterations and the addition of accessories. To incorporate “green” wedding party dresses into the wedding, these also can be pre-worn or new but made from cotton or some type of recycled material.
Flower Bouquets
The flowers carried by the bride and wedding party could consist of silk wedding bouquets or a bouquet that contains fresh flowers and tied with a piece of twine instead of ribbon. Whichever choice of flowers is used, the bouquet should have an “outdoorsy” look to them.
Gifts and Favors
When choosing the wedding party gifts opt for items that have been recycled or items that can be used repeatedly. Suggestions for “green” gifts could include jewelry made from natural items such as shells or a personalized cloth shopping bag. Wedding party favors could include vegetable and flower seeds or make a donation to a charity and make a note for the guests on recycled paper explaining the charity.
Serve Locally Grown
The food for the ceremony and wedding party should include lots of fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. Serve the meal on glass plates as opposed to disposable tableware. Decorate the reception area with “found” items instead of purchasing new. For example, use flowerpots that are borrowed from your home or the home of family and friends. It will be almost impossible to have an entirely “green” wedding, however, the more recycled and natural items you use, the more natural the wedding will be.
