Bamboo in the Office

Whether you do your work at an office at home or outside of the home in an office building, it is still a good idea to care about an environment where you are going to spend 8 or more hours a day. One way to improve an office environment is to bring natural materials into the space.

The best natural materials are those which are renewable. The world’s fastest growing plant is the bamboo. It is a plant that thrives without fertilizer or pesticide. It also requires less water than trees and produces more oxygen than trees. In order to stop deforestation it makes sense to buy bamboo office equipment instead of hardwood items: the more trees that are standing, the better are humanity’s chances of slowing down global warming.

There is also a health benefit to bamboo. It is both antimicrobial and anti-bacterial. It improves the hygiene of an office and helps to stop allergic rhinitis attacks (especially if bamboo flooring and shades are installed).

Bamboo is an ideal material from which to make items for the office because it is hard and durable. Moreover it can be worked like wood. It has a pleasing honey color and an attractive grain. Bamboo is a versatile material that can be used to make strand woven flooring, desks, chairs, sofas, pen holders, drawer organizers and a host of other office equipment. It can even be used as casing for a laptop computer.

It used to be the case that it was hard to find bamboo products. However, such are the environmentally friendly times that we live in that it is much easier to source a great many bamboo furnishings and other bamboo items both in malls and on the internet.

Bamboo in the office is not just limited to furniture, flooring and equipment. Bamboo shades and blinds make perfect window treatments for the office – they cut out glare, add insulation and are easy to clean.

Not strictly speaking bamboo, lucky bamboo is the final touch for a bamboo office. It brings good luck to an endeavor because it contains all 5 elements of Feng Shui.

So do yourself a favor and do the environment a favor – start introducing bamboo into the office.
